Traffic Safety for Motorcyclists#

Traffic Safety for Motorcyclists#

Hello fellow motorcyclists!

When it comes to motorcycles or when discussing two- or three-wheeled vehicles in traffic in general, there's something that I'm particularly passionate about, and that's the concept of safety. To me, safety on the road is paramount. It's the single most important aspect when it comes to riding motorcycles. Why is this aspect so crucial to me? The answer lies in my previous profession, education, and life experience.

My Background and Life Experience

In my "previous life" before I was suddenly struck by a serious illness, everything related to traffic was both important and interesting to me. I even sometimes felt embarrassed by how interested I was in traffic, and at times, I tried to hide it from acquaintances so they wouldn't think I had gone completely mad. But traffic legislation, traffic psychology, and traffic safety were and still are important aspects to me, albeit now from a slightly different perspective.

As you may have read before about me, I worked as a police officer for over 34 years. Besides police training (and others university studies, i.a. a masters`s degree in pedagogy), I also have a traffic instructor training. I have served as a traffic police officer and motorcycle police officer for many years.

But in addition to that, for many years, I have trained police students (thousands of hours), in many theoretical traffic topics and practical driving. I have also had the opportunity for many years in my spare time to educate traffic for motorcyclists, security guards, professional drivers, and driving instructors. I have also acquired other specialized training in traffic, partly from my own country Finland, but also from abroad.

What Traffic Safety Means to Me

When it comes to traffic safety, especially the safety of two-wheeled vehicles, it's something that I hold dear to my heart. That's also why I want to share my knowledge and skills regarding motorcycle riding and safety aspects. If I can, with my ability to write and convey my knowledge and experiences, save a reader from harming themselves or even the risk of death on the road? Then I am happy.

I know that I have concretely saved many lives for several road users with my previous profession, and I hope that in the future, I can continue to do so through my ability to express myself in writing and potentially save someone from a dreadful tragedy.

A tragedy rarely comes alone. It affects oneself, their relatives, family, and often even completely unrelated individuals and their own loved ones. So, without a doubt, road safety is an important part that unfortunately everyone doesn't think about, before it's too late.

The Motorcycle as a Hobby

These days, motorcycle riding is a hobby for me, as it is for many other road users.

In Finland, the motorcycle season is relatively short, typically only five months per year. But that doesn't mean that motorcycle riding is any less valuable! For me, as for other countrymen, we eagerly anticipate the summer months when the motorcycle season begins. Certainly, I may envy other motorcyclists who live in more favourable latitudes where the motorcycle season is significantly longer or even year-round. But one must simply accept the situation as it is and realize that there are other motorcyclists in the world who have better conditions than I do.

My Future Blog Posts

In my upcoming blog posts, I will focus on traffic safety, especially the safety of motorcyclists#. It's a fact that the driver and passenger of a two-wheeled vehicle are always the most vulnerable party in, for example, a ditch run-off or a collision.

Therefore, I will also later discuss with you, preventive thinking and preventive driving. Take care of yourselves. I hope we'll see you in the next blog.

Regards
